15th International Architecture Exhibition

REPORTING FROM THE FRONT from 28 May to 27 November 2016   Open to the public from Saturday May 28th to Sunday November 27th 2016, at the Giardini and the Arsenale, the 15th International Architecture Exhibition, titled REPORTING FROM THE FRONT, was directed by Alejandro Aravena and organized by La Biennale di Venezia chaired by Paolo Baratta. The preview took place on May 26th and 27th, the awards ceremony and inauguration held on Saturday May 28th 2016. The Concert Hall, Reimagined

Performance spaces today are designed to be stand-alone icons, but that’s not how we’ve always created these buildings. The Philharmonie de Paris, a new concert hall designed by Jean Nouvel, Hon. FAIA, opened last year. While the construction was costly and the remote location at the north-eastern edge of the city remains controversial, the hall has received plaudits for its musical ambiance. “From first impressions it seems acoustically marvellous,” wrote Anthony Tommasini of The New York Times. Alex Ross of the New Yorker found the sound to be “rather wonderful,” although he characterized the building itself as a “menacing presence.” The Guardian’s architecture critic, Oliver Wainwright, went further and described the exterior as “a tyrannical hulk of a thing”.
