SUPERB & STYLISH SEATING AL ITALIANO:
Clerkenwell Design Week has come and gone, but the impression it left behind will last well into the next one. We’ve highlighted some of our favourite brands from CDW, but we’ve decided to save Arper for our #designpick.
Arper is an Italian interiors brand that specialises in designer chairs, sofas and tables, catering to contract, home and work sectors worldwide. The company comes from the entrepreneurial endeavours of the Feltrin family, beginning with Luigi Feltrin, who founded a small leather manufacturing company in the 1980s – which later went on to evolve into Arper.
Luigi Feltrin’s creativity and passion for design was a perfect match for his sons, Mauro and Claudio’s interest in research and innovation, helping pave the way for Arper’s brand ethos as a company that operates worldwide and is keen to blend design with new materials and technological solutions.
Arper has collaborated with numerous eminent designers, including the Lievore Altherr Molina Studio, which was a fundamental milestone for the furniture maker. The Catifa chair collection stemmed from this long-term collaboration, and has become an iconic object in the company’s portfolio.
Kinesit was another successful result of this partnership – Arper’s first office chair, presented in 2014 and instantly popular for its innovative approach. Other great objects to emerge from Arper’s work with Lievore Altherr are the Loop sofas, the Saya, Colina, Duna 02 chairs, the Meety, Yop and Wim tables, as well as the Parentesit panels.
Jean-Marie Massaud was another prolific collaborator of the Italian brand, introducing the Steeve sofa at Salone del Mobile in 2015. Massaud had already designed Arper’s Aston executive chair and lounge chair.
Simon Pengelly designed the Nuur table, winner of the prestigious Compasso d’Oro in 2011, and Antti Kotilainen gave us the Aava collection through Arper, further demonstrating the brand’s versatility and stylish approach to both form and function.
At Clerkenwell Design Week, Arper was one of the prime showroom partners, hosting the Festival’s digital hub for the second consecutive year – the Arper Bloggers Lounge, the digital media’s dedicated venue and by far one of our favourite spots at CDW.
On this occasion, Arper opened the doors to its London showroom, introducing their latest collections and new designs, after their official unveiling at Salone del Mobile in Milan this year.
The Italian design brand also teamed up with Dezeen, hosting a special exhibition display with the digital publisher, along with a full programme of events that activated the Lounge, beckoning its users to engage and creating stimulating and shareable content on-site and across multiple digital platforms.
Most importantly, Arper’s designs speak of style and craftsmanship, carefully adjusted to contemporary lines and manufacturing methods that cater to both home and office needs on the high-end spectrum. There is always emphasis on comfort, without overlooking the importance of form and the way in which an object will interact with the space around it.
Ultimately, whatever one might pick from Arper’s extensive line of seating and tables, the result will always be the same – a design synergy that only years of research and technical innovation can provide, when combined with a creative spirit.
