THE WORLD’S GREATEST ART DEALERS & GALLERIES RETURN THIS SUMMER:
As is the case each year, Masterpiece is the best opportunity for art collectors and art lovers to find the world’s most precious works of art that are currently on the market in one place. Masterpiece has established itself as one of the world’s leading international art fairs, as it brings together top galleries and specialists at the very height of London’s summer arts season.
The event tends to draw almost 40,000 visitors throughout an entire week of extraordinary cultural, culinary and social experiences mixed with fine art. It is, by far, the most prominent and stylish place to view and buy superb works of art, as well as antiques, designs and stunning jewellery – both contemporary and much, much older.
2017 will also introduce MASTERPIECE PRESENTS, a brand new large-scale exhibition space designed to transform the art fair’s entrance. The immersive work of art is signed by renowned Chilean artist Iván Navarro, well known for his neon sculptures, socio-politically charged in fluorescent and incandescent light. The installation was commissioned by Paul Kasmin Gallery, first-time exhibitors at Masterpiece this year.
Speaking of which, new exhibitors include Hazlitt Holland-Hibbert, Stoppenbach & Delestre and Vertes alongside Paul Kasmin Gallery, augmenting Masterpiece’s representation of 19th to 21st century art, also presented by Dickinson, Offer Waterman, Thomas Gibson, Blain¦Southern and Robilant + Voena.
Modern British Art will see Robin Katz Fine Art, Osborne Samuel, Piano Nobile and Christopher Kingzett contributing to the art fair’s exhibition, bringing along superb works by Henry Moore, Howard Hodgkin, Bridget Riley and Barbara Hepworth.
Mazzoleni Art, M&L Fine Art, Tornabuoni Art, Cortesi Gallery and Repetto Gallery will be offering viewers and buyers alike some of the world’s most precious Italian masters, including Burri, Scheggi, Pistoletto and Fontana.
As usual but always beautifully surprising, Mayoral, Bailly Gallery, Ludorff and Trinity House Paintings will present splendid Impressionist, Surrealist and Expressionist paintings. The Old Masters and British paintings selection is sustained by De Jonckheere, Galerie Sarti and Derek Johns this year, alongside seasoned veterans Richard Green, The Fine Art Society, Alessandra di Castro, Philip Mould and Agnew’s.
Perhaps one of the absolute highlights of Masterpiece London is the opportunity for collectors to purchase works on paper by iconic artists such as Picasso, Hockney, Lichtenstein and Warhol – courtesy of Sims Reed Gallery, Lyndsey Ingram, Long-Sharp Gallery, William Weston Gallery and Offer Waterman & Co.
The fair’s cross-collecting ethos will be further developed this year through a special melange of ancient Egyptian, Roman and Greek antiquities, introduced alongside iconic 20th century and contemporary design.
There will also be rare books and illuminated manuscripts presented, as Masterpiece continues to develop its expertise in this particular field of antiques & literature. Librairie Camille Sourget will be amongst the exhibitors, alongside Peter Harrington and Les Enluminures.
As far as art dealers, the art fair will continue to host some of the world’s prominent names, including Axel Vervoordt, Ariadne Galleries, David Ghezelbash, Rupert Wace, Valerio Turchi and Galerie Chenel.
Galerie Perrin, Steinintz, Thomas Coulborn & Sons, Ronald Phillips and more will offer fine furniture and decorative arts from the 17th century, available for purchase, while modern and contemporary design will be offered by Based Upon, Modernity Stockholm, Jean David Botella, Dutko Gallery, Rose Uniacke, Linley London and David Gill Gallery, as well as new exhibitors Oscar Graf and Chastel-Maréchal.
Another fabulous highlight will be the presence of global leaders in fine jewellery, including Wallace Chan, Van Cleef & Arpels, Boghossian and Hemmerle, while Wartski, Symbolic & Chase, Verdura, Hancocks and S.J. Phillips will present a unique and absolutely stunning selection of antique jewellery, with pieces by Cartier, Boucheron, JAR and Fabergé.
