YOUR WEEKLY CURATED SELECTION OF INDUSTRY NEWS: Jockey Club Innovation Tower wins RIBA Award for International Excellence: Selected from 30 projects from around the world, the Jockey Club Innovation Tower designed by Zaha Hadid Architects won a RIBA Award for International Excellence and the Heydar Aliyev Center was shortlisted for the RIBA International Prize. The Jockey Club Innovation Tower (JCIT) is home to the Hong Kong Polytechnic University's School of Design, and the Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation. The 15-storeys, 15,000sqm tower accommodates more than 1,800 students and staff, with facilities for design education and innovation that include: design studios, labs and workshops, exhibition areas, multi-functional classrooms, lecture theatre and communal lounge. Yayoi Kusama

Yayoi Kusama is one of those artists whose mythology often overshadows her work. Now 87 years old, she has had a litany of avant-garde terms thrown her way over the years – conceptualist, feminist, minimalist – and was an indisputably huge influence on pop art giants including Andy Warhol. Having done her time on the 1960s’ New York scene, in the early 1970s Kusama returned to Tokyo, checked herself into a mental institution and has lived there willingly ever since – travelling to her nearby studio to work.
