Sicilian Sunshine Graces Aoyama’s New Fashion Retail Gem
Fashion giant Dolce & Gabbana recently opened the doors to its new boutique in Aoyama, Tokyo. The innovative design project delivered by Gwenael Nicolas and his creative practice Curiosity establishes a strong connection between the structure, product and materials through beautiful light effects, bold contrasts and special perspectives.
The boutique is a unique and inimitable concept space dedicated to Tokyo only. Gwenael was asked to bring the creative soul of Dolce & Gabbana and its Sicilian roots to the Far East through this brand new store. The boutique sprawls elegantly over 550sqm and both the architectural design and décor bring Sicily’s distinctive and vibrant luminosity through dramatic chiaroscuro effects. It resembles a compact black volume lit by light projections that illuminate the collection displays in regular and almost theatrical reprises. Four hundred ceiling spotlights move around as well, switching on and off, making the products systematically burst with colour or rest in the shadow, as if the sun moves across the store throughout the day.
Dolce & Gabbana’s new Tokyo boutique houses both Menswear and Womenswear collections – a plethora of clothing and accessories distributed on two spacious levels. The ground floor is home to the men’s and women’s pret-a-porter collections, accessories and splendid small leather goods. The first floor holds men’s formalwear and women’s evening fashion, as well as a stylish selection of shoes.
The undisputed feature of this new boutique is the large gold staircase, as it not only stands out like a giant candle in the middle of the store, it also transmits a sense of strength and confidence. The store exterior is lavishly dressed in Arabescato marble, which is also present on the interior side of the windows and the display cases for small leather goods. Black carrico marble was used for the majestic signage panel above the main entrance. (Source: Curiosity)
